The Journey Here
What motivated you to start working at TAIMATSU?
I came across TAIMATSU at the GaijinPot Expo and immediately connected with the role. I’ve always liked detail-oriented work, so the logistics and compliance side really interested me. And after talking with the team, it felt like a genuine fit rather than just a job opening.
Life at Taimatsu
What is the most memorable experience you have had in this job?

Honestly, the early months. We had a huge volume of orders coming in, so the team was moving very fast. It wasn’t an easy environment to find your footing in, but looking back, that’s exactly what shaped how I work now. Having to figure things out quickly under those conditions taught me more than a comfortable onboarding ever could have.

What Surprised Me
In what ways do you feel you have grown the most through your work?
Professionally, I’ve grown enormously in customs and trade compliance, an area I’ve largely built from the ground up here. I’ve developed a much deeper understanding of preferential trade agreements and import regulations across multiple markets. I’ve also become much more confident taking initiative, not just handling day-to-day operations but also identifying structural problems, proposing solutions, and creating systems that improve efficiency long-term.
Beyond the Role
What experience are you most proud of?

Probably establishing the EU-Japan EPA preferential duty process for our French shipments, which wasn’t in place before and had us paying duties we didn’t need to. It combined the parts of the work I genuinely enjoy, researching regulations, coordinating with carriers, and ending up with something that actually fixes the root issue rather than just patching over it.
If You're Thinking of Joining
What message would you like to share with people considering joining the company?

If you’re someone who likes to take ownership and figure things out, TAIMATSU is a great environment for that. It’s a growing international company, which means there’s real scope to build something, not just maintain it. The level of responsibility I was able to take on in just a few months wouldn’t have happened at a larger company.

About you
Could you tell us about your background and where you are from?
I was born and raised in Brazil, but Japan has always felt like a second home, as half of my family is originally from here. I grew up with both cultures very much present in daily life, and I’ve been here since 2017 this time around, having lived here before as well.
Outside the work
What do you enjoy doing outside of work, and do you have any favorite places you often visit?

I’m a huge F1 fan and watch every race without fail. I love driving in general, and I’d love to get back into karting at some point. Outside of that, I love getting out of the city when I can, especially to the countryside or the snowier parts of Japan in winter. I’m a big winter person, and it doesn’t really feel like winter in the city.
